Press & Media
Everything you need to write about Balm.
One-liner
Balm is AI journaling that can't read your diary — end-to-end encrypted, with an AI companion that only listens when you ask.
The short version
Most AI journals store everything you write, readable, and send it to a model on every entry. Most private journals can't reflect with you at all. Balm is the rare product that's both: entries are end-to-end encrypted on your device, and the AI companion only reads what you explicitly choose to share.
Why it's different
| Private (E2E) | Not private | |
|---|---|---|
| Deep AI | Balm | Rosebud, Mindsera, Reflection |
| ~No AI | Day One | Daylio, Reflectly |
Key features
- End-to-end encryption (opt-in, zero-knowledge — only you hold the key).
- AI companion that reads entries only when you allow it; gentle weekly reflection.
- One-tap mood scale with a mood-over-time trend, and streaks that never punish you.
- Rich editor with photos, tags, folders, and search; guided prompts and templates.
- Dark mode and strong accessibility (font scaling, reduce-motion, high-contrast, WCAG palettes).
- Installable PWA with optional reminders.
What we won't do
No ads, no selling data, no reading your journal. When AI is used, that specific text is sent to our model provider (OpenAI) for that one request — always your explicit choice.
